“If you're a bit adventurous, this is a great hotel. I was attending a conference at an upscale hotel eight blocks away, and I didn't want to pay a lot for a room I only slept in, so I chose cheap, convenient, and a good excuse for morning walks. The Cecil was an excellent choice for my quirky travel style. Yes, the rooms were old and bathrooms shared (but immaculately clean), and no mints on the pillow—but I slept between clean sheets just as well as anywhere. The lobby coffee shop was especially friendly, and the barista quickly learned my decaf preference. As far as I could tell, anywhere in downtown LA had shady characters and a sad number of homeless late at night, so location wouldn't differ if you went out during those hours. And for the price of my four nights, my conference colleagues spent on one—and I bet I slept just as well.”
